Taking a break from exams to say goodbye to John. He will be missed.
My friend over at Splenda called to my attention the neglect of my little ole blog as of late. I have never gone this long without posting! Several factors have contributed to my neglecting the blog as if I were Joan Crawford and SAMerican Revolution were Christina, not the least of which have been
1. the three-week preparation for my last set of exams
2. the continuing problems I am having with my computer.
3. not a single original post-worthy thought going through my head
So, I can't promise it'll get any better. But for now, just know I'm home, alive and studying. LYMI

Okay, WE, dear readers, you and I, have always known what an awesome place Kentucky is. Right? Well, Hollywood agrees with us so much they are releasing two movies this month filmed in and set in the beautiful Bluegrass State.
Elizabethtown: During an outrageous memorial for a Southern patriarch, an unexpected romance blooms between a young woman (Kirsten Dunst) and man (Orlando va-va-va Bloom).
If you live in Kentucky, you call it E-Town. One of my fraternity brothers was from E-Town. He was really cute. Soccer player. I think my roommate my sophomore year was from there, too. I caught him masturbating once. It was so embarassing.
Who did you catch masturbating?
Dreamer: A trainer (Kurt Russell) and his daughter (Dakota Fanning) nurse an injured horse back to health, with an eye on racing her in the Breeders' Cup.
We used to go to the races a lot back in the Bluegrass. My brother took me to the races for the first time when I was around 12. We went to see harness racing at The Red Mile. Harness racing is the kind where the jockeys aren't on top of the horse; they are in the back sitting in a little chariot-looking thing. Anyway, The Red Mile is sort of like the ghetto Horse Racing. But it was fun and by the time I went to college, we would go at least twice during the Fall and Spring meets at the much more hoity-toity place, Keeneland. Of course in college it was just an excuse to dress up, get drunk, and look down at all the other folks who weren't young and beautiful. Gambling sports are awesome.
What sports did you dress up for?

WHAT?? You've never seen a diagram of a breast before??
This is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I bet you didn't know that. So, do a little researching on the subject of breast cancer at the NBCAM web site and at breastcancer.org. Self-exxxamination and regular mammograms are key to early detection, which lead to early treatment and a much higher rate of success.
While I'm on the subject of touching yourself, guys should make sure to do the same touchy-touchy on themselves. Here's how to do it.
Special shout-out (do the kids these days still give 'shout-outs'?) to SugarPieHoneyBunch for reminding me about this special month. He points out that if you are female and Asian, you are even more likely to develop breast cancer:
I learned...that the number one cause of death in Asian women is breast cancer. I didn't know that. Did you?... Asian women are less likely to see their doctors to check for breast cancer for reasons of culture, language and simple denial....[S]pread awareness about breast cancer and...tell all your friends and family members to go get a mammogram done regularly.
Well, I guess it’s about time for an update on law school. I’ve been so busy watching all the cute new boys on TV and lamenting the veto of our gay marriage bill that I haven’t been paying much attention to law school. Just kidding. Of course, this is totally untrue, but I am sitting in Evidence class right now discussing Hearsay. Now, y’all know hearsay because of shows like L.A. Law and Law & Order, but what you don’t realize is that it’s nearly 100% of an entire semester’s worth of class discussion and is not at all straight-forward. Hearsay is "any out of court statement offered to prove the truth of the matter asserted." Say whaaaaa? Exactly. And there are about 50 exceptions to the rule, where out of court statements can be admitted. Here, for example, is the hypothetical we are discussing now: Bussy is being prosecuted for murder. The state offers testimony about a statement that the victim made before the victim’s death. Which, if either, of these two statements, dear friends, would be admissible? You think on that while I get back to updating. I am still loving school, for the most part. Although now, after three-plus months, I am settled down over the newness of it and am staring at another 18 months until graduation. The good part about this program, though, is that everything goes very quickly. We will have our second set of exams in just over two weeks. SECOND set of exams! And it’s only October! Whew. My classmates themselves have also settled down into predictable cliques and camps. I’m not sure which came first, the personality divisions or the geographical divisions, but both are currently present in the classroom. There is Side A of the room, with my friends and study group and Side B of the room, with "the others." There is also a middle ground where the "moderates" sit. It’s very weird. We still talk to "the others," but everybody pretty much keeps to themselves. I definitely do. I’m just there to learn. I’m just trying to keep my head down and get my mind wrapped around "Product Liability" and "Landlord/Tenant Law." On another note, we seem to have some liars in the class. After our first set of exams, it seems at least four people claimed to have gotten A pluses. Impossible, people. We are on a strict curve here and there are at most two A pluses in a class, unless perhaps more people end up getting the exact same amount of points on an exam, which is extremely unlikely. So somebody is fibbing. But this just goes along with law school students’ competitiveness. Nobody wants to be the dumb one. Class is ending and I have to go do a mock hearing. Hugs and Kisses.
It's people like this that give Christians a bad name:
"I'm a conservative, single Christian female. I attend church 3 times a week, and more for meetings...Also if you have gay friends I'd rather not meet them."
I couldn't help but send the little homophobe an email and tell her to talk that gay-hating crap without invoking Christianity. It's people like her, and W, and Dobson, that make people feel all Christians are haters. That isn't the church I grew up in, nor one any decent human being would be happy with.
UPDATE: Oh my fucking god! I totally missed this in my first read-through of her ad. At the end of her post, telling us she's not down with the gays, she adds this juicy bit about the kind of action her girl roommate can expect when she moves in:
You: FEMALE, friendly, a JOB and looking for an awesome Christian bud to snuggle with when it rains...
I've been looking forward to the premiere of Commander In Chief for a few months, and I was not disappointed. And I SWEAR it has nothing to do with the new president's son, Horace Calloway, played by Matt Lanter.

Dragostea Din Tei, by O-Zone. Otherwise known as the "Numa Numa" song. You gotta love Eastern European pop. The song's been out for over a year, though - I'm coming late to the party.
